lightning protection maintenance

LPS components tend to lose their effectiveness over the years because of corrosion, weather-related damage, mechanical damage and damage from lightning strokes hence maintenance must be carried out. The mechanical and electrical characteristics of an LPS must be regularly maintained important to ascertain that all LPS components are in good condition and capable of performing their designed functions with no corrosion. BCESERV Ltd carries out this regular maintenance as well as the repairs of any faults found.

visual inspection of lps

Lightning Protection Systems are visually inspected by a specialist at BCESERV Ltd to assess for any damages. Visual inspections are conducted to ensure that: the design conforms to this standard, the LPS is in good condition, there are no loose connections and no accidental breaks in the LPS conductors and joints, no part of the system has been weakened by corrosion, especially at ground level, all visible earth connections are intact, all visible conductors and system components are fastened to the mounting surfaces and components which provide mechanical protection are intact and in the right place, there have not been any additions or alterations to the protected structure which would require additional protection, there has been no indication of damage to the LPS, to SPDs or any failures of fuses which protect SPDs, correct equipotential bonding has been established.

continuity tests

BCESERV Ltd verifies the electrical continuity of the LPS installation. This is done by performing continuity tests, especially continuity of those parts of the LPS which were not visible for inspection during the initial installation and are not subsequently available for visual inspection.

earth resistance

At BCESERV Ltd, we periodically conduct earth resistance tests of the earth-termination system. The resistance to earth of the system must not exceed 10Ω. If there is a significant increase or decrease in the value of the earth resistance, additional investigations should be made to determine the reason for the change.
